Dunton Garden Activities

Dunton Community Garden Group is a registered charity. See our details on the charity commission website and enter 1113186 into the Charity Search box.

Our main work is done at The Dunton Garden located at Church Farm, Dunton, Bedfordshire – SG18 8RR

We are accountable to The Charity Commission. The Charity Commission has a dual role: It ensures that we meet their rules and regulations: It provides advice and guidance for successful running of the group.

Their rules, as far as they impact on our work are:

We can only do work that is in accordance with our own constitution.

We keep our list of trustees up to date

We submit our annual report and our annual accounts soon after our year end.

Their website contains a wealth of information.

Firstly about our group

But in particular to help us

We are accountable to our members – but in reality this only occurs through the Annual Report and Accounts and our Annual General Meeting.

We are also accountable to our funders who generally require reports of progress and a final report.

Core Group Meetings:

These are usually monthly and generally start at 7.30pm and can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours They are attended by a committee comprising the Trustees and officers plus representatives from the Admin Group, Events and PR Group and Garden Group.

Meetings are usually held at The Dunton Garden or in The March Hare.

The meetings are minuted. The minutes form a legal record of the group’s activities. They are signed after being agreed at the following meeting.

There must be at least 4 committee members at the meeting.

Attendees need to ensure that the group are carrying out only those activities that are defined in our constitution. To that end the meetings review our activities of the previous month and consider our activities for the following month, when needed, we also review proposed plans for events planned for the remainder of the year.

Our current chairman is Roy Barham, who has agreed to serve for a second year.

The other trustees are Chris Bugg (Treasurer), Paula Doran (Secretary), Anne Moulder and Alan Dansey.

 Annual General Meeting

The group’s financial year runs from 1st February to 31st January. As soon as the accounts are expected to have been signed by the independent inspector, the AGM is called. The AGM must be in March or April, and is held in the church or village hall in Dunton.

The meetings are minuted. The minutes form a legal record of the group’s activities. They are signed after being discussed at the following AGM.

There must be at least 7 members at the meeting.

Daily work

The regular work days are Mon & Wed. Activities are planned for each session depending on priorities and who is available.

Types of People Attending

Our volunteers are assisted by beneficiaries including those in long term unemployment, Youth Offenders and those suffering with, or recovering from, mental ill health.  Some suffer with depression, loneliness and social isolation.
